Jacob has been a leader in the movement of Reconstructionist Judaism for over thirty years—as editor of the Reconstructionist magazine (1983-89), as co-author of the primary introduction to Reconstructionism, Exploring Judaism: A Reconstructionist Approach (1985, 2000), as Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (1989-2005), and as the author of the soon-to be published The Reconstructionist Guide to Jewish Practice: Shabbat.
